Six programmes, one mission

We work with one single community: Pijao, Quindío, in the Coffee Cultural Landscape. Integral support for many generations of the same community, building the future from the ground up.

Tierra Programme

“Planting roots, harvesting the future”

School and family gardens for food sovereignty — 560 children learn to grow food in 14 school gardens across rural Pijao.

Other lines of work

  • Elderly Support — Solidarity Network. Home visits and food baskets bought directly from local farmers. No one should grow old feeling forgotten.
  • University scholarships. 18 scholarships awarded (17 undergraduate and 1 postgraduate) to rural young people from Pijao.
  • BonplandIA. The laboratory's knowledge strand: 956 botanical records authored by the children themselves, a 2026 Premios Verdes finalist.

Voices from the community

“I wanted to sow dignity. Today I lovingly look after the Bonplandia Laboratory; I like to say I am its guardian. What many call 'weeds' are actually treasures.”

Ligia Villamil — Guardian of the El Patio nursery, Pijao

“Thank you for dreaming our dreams. Today we sow hope, cultivate dignity and harvest a fairer, more sustainable future.”

Hugo Murcia — Head teacher, La Mariela Educational Institution

“My story is not just about me — it is about all of us who come from underserved communities and dare to dream.”

Mayerly Mesa Mejía — Lawyer, graduated with honours, the Foundation's first volunteer

“Loneliness is often the mother of their suffering. They need someone to listen to them, even if only for a moment.”

Esteban Rengifo Cuervo — Medical student, Pijao Node scholar and volunteer with the Elderly Support programme
