Classrooms for Peace is the Foundation’s commitment to Pijao’s rural schools as pillars of hope in a territory that has learned to overcome conflict and natural disasters.
It began in 2019 with the first donations to the rural schools of La Palmera and El Espartillal: new roofs, school equipment, a refrigerator, a solar panel. During the pandemic it continued with phones for remote classes, face masks, seeds and tools. Today it carries on wherever infrastructure and equipment are needed to make learning possible.
The programme also looks after what the classroom holds inside: beds, blankets and furniture for the campuses that work as rural boarding schools, because resting well is part of learning too. And it works hand in hand with the Yoga Programme, which tends to the other half of peace: the kind you practise with your body.
The impact of this work is reported in aggregate and through the voices of adults in the school community — that is how we protect the identity of the children who are its reason for being.
