From London to Pijao: the formal birth of the Foundation

Our founder's visit to Lotus Children's Foundation in the United Kingdom and the constitution of the Frailejones Foundation in September 2023.

After four years of continuous work in Pijao, in 2023 our founder travelled to London to visit the home of Lotus Children’s Foundation.

There he saw the parent foundation’s work up close: decades of experience working for children in Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and the United Kingdom, and its way of understanding help — patient, respectful, long-term. There was also a gesture that sums up the relationship: Colombian coffee from the mountains of Pijao shared in the care homes Lotus supports in England. Two distant territories, one table.

He came back with more than gratitude: a joint plan. In September 2023, the Frailejones Foundation was formally constituted as a Colombian non-profit, based in Pijao, Quindío.

The formal constitution was not a start from zero, but the coming of age of work that was already years old: the rural schools, the gardens, the first university scholars. Since then, the Foundation combines the best of both worlds: the territorial roots of those who live on the mountain and the international experience of a parent foundation that has spent decades cultivating hope.

Seven years of continuous work since 2019. Legal personhood since 2023. And the same question as a compass: how can we help your community?

Would you like to sow with us?

Your knowledge, your time or supplies that support our gardens become real opportunities for the rural communities of Pijao.
